I appreciate that this community doesn't support those crazy pro-ana sites etc. Since this past summer I have been sticking to a diet and excercise plan. I joined a great gym that I go to regularly and I have been watching what I eat. I have had modest weight loss but I am giong to keep my routine up. However, lately  I have fallen off track a bit. It's very difflicult to  have constant will power. I started a new job at a supermarket. It has limited my gym time. I work in the produce department and my job requirers me to be very physical. I lift and hustle. My question is that would my job count as excercise?

Hey all. Katie here.

I've gotten back into a routine as far as eating habits and working out. I eat low calorie, low carb, and low fat foods--which is kind of a difficult balancing act when you're trying make sure you get your protein as well to help with muscle building.

I'll have a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast (I won't eat again for another 4-5 hours because of work, so the carbs, protein, and calories does me good). A cup of soup, granola bar, and some fruit for lunch, and a small portion of whatever I want for dinner (fast food excluded, of course). It's a diet plan that I invented and it seems to be working rather well so far. I drink lots of water, diet citrus green tea, and sometimes, a diet soda.

On top of dieting, I make sure I get some sort of exercise in every day. I use the elliptical for 30 minutes at a time 3 times a week, do toning exercises in my legs and calves while at work (I stand all day long), and my abs and arms 3 times a week as well.

I'm already down 12 pounds from two weeks ago, I'm not starving myself (meaning, I'm not hungry all the time), and I'm not going crazy with the working out either. I actually have MORE energy now that I'm exercising and eating healthier.

Anyone got any good ideas on how to get rid of belly fat? That's my biggest problem area. I figured the cardio would be good for it--as well as losing the extra pounds. I want to be back down around 140 pounds.

I was up to 192 pounds at one point, which on my 5'1" frame, isn't very flattering. I'm down to 178, and I'm showing no signs of stopping. Any advice would be good advice!!

I'm gonna go work out now.

Very quite around here lately? How's everyone's workout/diets going?

So far, very good with me. I've lost another 5lbs, and my clothes feel looser around the middle. My face, neck, hands and feet look thinner. Having an elliptical in my house makes it so convenient to work out it's not even funny. Today I did 30 minutes between teaching skating until 2 and a dentist appointment at 3. Slacking a little on the yogilates and arm weights, but I still manage to do them 2 or 3 times a week.

I haven't been as militant with my diet but I've kept it up relatively well — still lots of fruit, vegetables and less pasta/bread. The biggest help seems to be dropping my Pepsi consumption down from 3 or 4 2-liters a week to one can a day. Sometimes I can't even finish the can. I drink water instead. The best benefit of all this is my skin is looking a lot clearer!

OK, your turn to share!

Today is a great day, one amazing day at that. Woke up this morning, weighed myself, folks I have FINALLY gotten BELOW the 200 benchmark. I haven't been 100-something in about 6 years or more, I am enthralled! This is simply awesome, and extremely motivating! The standing weight is 198.5 :) Down down down down we go from here, truly truly awesome!!!!

What excercises can I do to tone my lower stomach? Does anyone have workout video recommendations for this?

I got my elliptical on Monday night, and this past week I worked out 4 times for 30 minutes each. I got little bouts of "I don't wanna" but I remembered something I saw on an MTV Made show recently: "Sometimes you have to do stuff you don't want to, to get what you want." Corny I know, but it motivated me. So I dragged myself on there and just did it, even at 3am (I work nights). This week I felt great and really proud of myself.

What do you guys do for motivation to work out?

Alright! weighed myself this morning, came in at 203.5 lbs which means I lost 2 lbs this past week! YAY! Only 4 damn lbs to go to beat that 200 lb benchmark!!! WOO HOO!

*EDIT* Actually, read my scale wrong, I am 201.5 hahaha!!! YES!

Ok, kinda pissed. I thought that I was 205 at my house when I was last there and weighed myself. At the doctor's office, however back a long while ago, I was 220lbs, so I didn't know what to believe. Finally, bought a scale tonight. Currently I'm at 208. So, if the doctor's office, scale was right, then I've lost about 12 lbs so far, which rox sox!! I have to keep track for sure from now on, now...WHOA only 9 lbs and I'll be beneath the 200 benchmark! YES!

*NOTE* Actually, I weighed myself at night tonight. They recommend that you weigh yourself first thing in the morning, after you go to the bathroom, and before you eat. I just did it tonight out of anxiousness. So, typically, on average, there is a 5 lb difference or so between morning and night. So, actually, I figure that I'm around 203 or so!! Which I guess I'll find out tomorrow :)

I have been trying different workout DVDs, and I can't really find one I like. I bought "Pilates for Weight Loss" from Wegmans, but it's really slow and boring. My skating coach gave me a Mari Windsor Pilates DVD last year for Christmas, but it's advanced and I can't do half of the moves. At least 50% of the DVD is ab work, and while I do want to do ab work, I don't want that much!

The only one I've found that I really like is the bonus workout on the Shape cardio DVD. It's a combination of yoga and pilates, with more emphasis on yoga. It's very well paced, the instructor does each move on both sides at once, instead of doing all the right side stuff and then all the left side. There is a nice even amount of leg, arm and ab work. I haven't liked the dance cardio part yet, but I think I need to do it a few more times so I don't get lost in the choreography.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm interested in those 10 minute kickboxing ones, too.

Side note: ELLIPTICAL ARRIVING AT VESPERHOLLY'S APT. TOMORROW! WOO-HOO! :)

Well, I have an admittance to make. I thought that I could eat the same thing for two months straight. Now, this IS do-able for breakfast and lunch but by the time dinner rolls around, oy vey, soup and salad EVERYDAY, I really needed a switch up, BAD! So, instead, I tried a Lean Cuisine, which had roasted garlic chicken w/ spinach in parmasean sauce, which was only a grand total of 7 grams of fat and around 190 calories!!! Then a small cup of cream of mushroom soup, a dinner roll and water. Now, THIS feels more like dinner. Not to mention, it's still healthy, and there are a lot of different varieties in Lean Cuisine, so I think that's a pretty good thing to switch it up to, every now and then :)
